Mina got up and howled at the moon. The other members of the pack soon followed suit, heads raised, eyes closed in the ecstasy of singing. Eventually, Mina lowered her head and looked sharply at her pack. Her mate and the Alpha Male, Kiroko. The Beta wolf, Kiroko's best friend and brother, Jinnh. Mina's sister Haev. The pups, Orin, Pen and Sasha. Finally, the outsider - the Omega wolf - Amersh, a yellowly brown, thing wolf with sharp beady eyes like a rat. Kiroko came and stood next to Mina and nuzzled her neck. The Alpha Female smiled.
"Stop," she grined, nudging Kiroko away. She raised her head. "Mountain Tree Pack! We hunt!"
She turned and headed out of the camp, the pack following in a stream of wolves.

The prey- Red Deer, and an easy prey too. The night gave the advantage to the wolves, and they approached from downwind. The plan was all to perfect except for one little thing...

Amersh was steadily loping towards the deer, not trying to hide himself or even be quiet. He brushed against the bushes, making an awful racket, eyes fixed on the deer.
"Amersh!" Jinh hissed. "What are you doing? You'll lose us our dinner!"
The Omega wolf kept on padding towards the prey, eyes fixed. The deer, finally sensing the danger, looked up, took a glance at Amersh and fled.
Kiroko rounded on Amersh. "You idiot!" he screamed. "You...

Too late. Amersh had blown it. The deer ran in a panicked stampeed directly towards the entire pack. "TAKE COVER!" Shouted Mina.

The deer bounded towards the pack. Kiroko leapt in front of it, grabbed its neck in his huge jaws and slammed it to the ground. Jinnh hurried over and helped him kill it.

Amhersh growled softly but didn't make himself too threatening - he knew what would happen if he did. Already, Kiroko and Jinh were giving him evil looks. He whimpered and backed away, retreating until the rest of the pack had finished their meal. That was the order of things - Mina, Kiroko and Jinh ate first. Then Haev and finally, Amhersh. They would then go home and Haev and Mina would regurgitate some of their meal for the puppies.

Amhersh hated how the pack rules forced him to be like an obediant servant. He just had to wait for the correct time.

Kiroko muttered something in Jinh's ear and they both got up and left. Mina padded behind them softly. Haev left her resting place and trotted down to the carcass and started ripping off strips of the meat. Amherst's stomach growled loudly. Haev shot him a glare, under the impression that he was threatening her to hurry up.

Haev finished ripping herself the last of the good meet and bounded of with the rest of the pack. Amhearsh plodded up to the ravaged corpse, flesh torn from all the limbs, only the tough and nasty meat remained. Amhearsh sighed and took his share, he grumbled and thought to himself, nasty thoughts. Later that night while the pack slept Kiroko took Amhearsh out into the woods....

"Amersh," Kiroko said gravely. "I saw what you did today at the hunt. What were you thinking?"
Amhersh glowered in the opposite direction, ignoring the clan leader.
"Amhersh!" Kiroko roared. A couple of birds took flight from the trees.
"Kiroko?" Kiroko heard Mina's voice calling to him. "Are you okay?"
"What's going on?" Jinnh's deep voice slipped through the trees. "Amhersh is gone!"
"It's okay, he's with me," Kiroko sighed. He turned back to face the Omega, but he was already loping back to camp.
